Lactel® Absorbable Polymers stand for high quality biodegradable polymers for the drug delivery and medical device industries. We offer a full range of standard polymers from glycolide, lactide and ε-caprolactone monomers, and can also provide expert developmental input and custom synthesis.

Lactel® Absorbable Polymers has been acquired from DURECT Corporation by Evonik Industries in 2020. Evonik is Germany-based specialty chemicals company. The integration of the LACTEL® business into Evonik’s market-leading portfolio of functional excipients, biomaterials and integrated CDMO services will complement Evonik’s own RESOMER® line of polymers and provide customers with even greater platform versatility as well as other value-adding services.

With our global reach, existing and new customers will benefit from tapping into Evonik’s twelve global laboratories staffed with formulation, application and regulatory experts to assist in bringing their products faster to the market.

We hold patents relating to the use of biodegradable polymers for improved processes in drug delivery and the manufacture of biodegradable medical devices.

Evonik produces its line of LACTEL® Absorbable Polymers at its modern, well-equipped production and laboratory facilities in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Polymers are produced in ISO 8 clean rooms with controlled temperature and humidity.

Evonik’s Production is conducted according to the International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council (IPEC) Good Manufacturing Practices guidance for Bulk Pharmaceutical Excipients, which are recognized and published in the United States Pharmacopeia. Both Drug and Device Master Files (DMFs) are maintained with the FDA.
